The St. Anastasia Catholic Church Theater Ministry will host three “Passion of Christ” performances during the Fifth Week of Lent in the Church’s school auditorium in Fort Pierce.
The play, which will be held April 8-9, brings together St. Anastasia and San Juan Diego Centro families to re-enact Christ’s last days for 1,200 spectators that travel from around the state to view the live performance.
For more than 18 years, the Ministry team and “Passion” cast members have grown the play from a small production to an impressive theatrical performance.
“It’s parish enriched,” said the writer and director of the play, Marie Kerr.
The scripture-based production provides its 75 cast members a real opportunity to prepare for Easter. They begin practicing for the Passion in January and continue through the Lenten Season, spending more than 50 hours studying the Word of God and rehearsing their parts.
“Over the years, it’s become more than a ministry; the cast has become a family,” said Father Richard E. George, pastor of St. Anastasia Catholic Church. “The ‘Passion’ play provides an opportunity for the Parish community to encounter the power of forgiveness and the unconditional love God has for his people.”
Daniel Scott’s three children – Clayton, Ashlyn and Graham – will join their father in this year’s ‘Passion’ play. Scott plays Jesus as he reveals Christ’s trial, suffering and death in a ministry that reaches beyond the walls of St. Anastasia’s Church.
“It is an opportunity for our family to bring the ‘Passion’ to people that may not get to experience it,” Scott said.

The ‘Passion’ play brings the gospel to life for cast and audience members.
“It keeps us all mindful of the Resurrection and what Jesus went through getting there,” Scott said.
