PORT ST. LUCIE, FL/APRIL 2022 – Two Rotary Clubs in Port St. Lucie are joining forces in an effort to raise funds for literacy projects for local students. The Port St. Lucie Sunset Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Port St Lucie will host “Trivia Night for Literacy” on April 22 from 7:00-9:00 pm at the Buffalo Chophouse. The Sunset Rotary Club will use their portion of the proceeds to purchase constitution booklets for seventh graders while the Port St Lucie Club will provide dictionaries to third graders.
“We’re really excited to work with another Rotary Club in Port St Lucie to benefit our local students,” said Sunset Rotary Club President Nancy Oldham. “There’s strength in numbers and we can do so much more when we work together. This event will be a fun way to raise money for our mutual cause of literacy.”
Rotary Club of Port St Lucie President Connie Cox is hopeful the community will come out and support the event. “We chose Trivia Night because it seems to be a very popular trend for a fun night out for singles, couples and families. Cost to participate is only $10 per person and there will be great prizes for first, second and third place winners. Please join us and support our local students.”
Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Port St Lucie Sunset Club’s event page on Facebook. Go to www.facebook.com/PortStLucieSunsetRotaryClub. Drinks and food will be available for purchase. Seats are limited to 50 guests, no refunds.
Literacy is one of Rotary International’s 7 Areas of Focus, including Peace-Building and Conflict Resolution, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Clean Water and Sanitation, Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, Community Economic Development, and Supporting the Environment.
In 2021, the Sunset Rotary Club donated more than 500 Constitution booklets to local seventh grade students in Port St. Lucie for use in their civics classes during the month of September. Constitution Day is a day to commemorate the formation and signing of the Constitution on September 17, 1787. The schools receiving the booklets were Palm Pointe in Tradition, Renaissance St. Lucie West and Renaissance Tradition.
The Rotary Club of Port St Lucie donated 3,000 dictionaries to all third-grade students in Port St. Lucie. The dictionary delivery is one of their annual service projects.
