JOHN CARROLL HIGH SCHOOL BETA CLUB STUDENTS RECOGNIZED AT STATE LEVEL

- 03/04/2023 - stlpost

FORT PIERCE – John Carroll High School National BETA Club students were recognized at the state convention held in Orlando in late January.

Team Captain and junior Jackie Milles, sophomore Saribel Martin, and freshman Christ Simon won the Character Performance category, and Junior Riley Butterfield won an academic award in science. Both awards qualified the students to compete at the upcoming National BETA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.

Students who received accolades include junior Jesse Priest for her tap dance solo; junior Paola Jean Simon for speech; freshman Isabella Amaro Altidor in the visual arts sculpture category; and engineering team members freshmen Isabella Amaro Altido and Emma Dooley and sophomores Nicholas Griffis, Meeval Naliyath, and Chloe Yang.

“I saw the opportunity to bring enrichment to John Carroll High School,” said Dr. Shannon Rennaker, John Carroll High School Director of Academic Affairs and College Planning and club sponsor. “I love the National BETA Club because it not only gives students recognition for their academic scholarship, but it lets them compete with one another and other students across the state and nation. We are looking forward to hosting a BETA fair in the fall to invite surrounding schools to compete in visual arts, performing arts, poetry and engineering.”

National BETA Club is the largest educational youth nonprofit in the United States, preparing students to become tomorrow’s leaders for more than 80 years. John Carroll initiated a charter with the National BETA Club in the summer of 2023 and was awarded a School of Merit title for meeting expectations of enrollment with a first-year membership of 59 students. The four core values in its mission statement include achievement, character, leadership and service, aligning closely with John Carroll’s core values, which are smile, persevere, encourage, listen and love.

”I am so excited about the addition of BETA Club to our school campus,” said Corey Heroux, John Carroll High School principal. “I am grateful to Dr. Rennaker for her leadership of this group and am so proud of our student participants. I look forward to seeing all that BETA brings to John Carroll and its students in the future!
