Celebrating Juneteenth Federal Holiday with a Journey Through African American History
The Pineapple Playhouse is thrilled to present the premiere of “The Juneteenth Experience,” a riveting new play by local talent Jadie Barringer, Jr. This engaging production promises to shed new light on African American history, coinciding with the Juneteenth Federal Holiday on June 16 and 17, 2023.
“The Juneteenth Experience” unfolds as a powerful series of vignettes spanning 1619 to 1870. It provides intimate snapshots into critical moments in African American history, from the first enslaved Africans arriving in colonial America to the joyous proclamation of Juneteenth in 1865. Each scene explores the struggles, strength, and spirit of those who endured slavery and the brave souls who fought for freedom, culminating in the election of Florida’s first African American Congressman.
Playwright Jadie Barringer, Jr., a retired respiratory therapist, ordained deacon, and noted community activist from Woodbury, NJ, relocated to Florida in 2019. His debut play aims to “educate, motivate, and entertain the diverse Treasure Coast public about Juneteenth, a date that signifies freedom and unity for all cultures.”
Artistic Director Josef Long states, “We were immediately drawn to Jadie’s compelling script. It provides an unflinching look at history, bridging the past and present and underscoring the ongoing struggle for freedom and equality.”
Shows are set for Friday, June 15 at 7pm, and Saturday, June 16 at 2pm. Tickets are $15 and available at tpp.Booktix.com. The Pineapple Playhouse, located at 700 W Weatherbee Rd. Fort Pierce, FL 34982, proudly celebrates its 50th year of serving the Treasure Coast. PineapplePlayhouse.com
